I am a young at heart 58 year old woman with a vast experience of providing childcare and playwork. I have worked in nurseries and after-schools and have been an overnight respite carer to children who came from families who were experiencing crisis. To do this I had to be assessed in a way that is very similiar to a foster carer assessment.
Working for a charity I also provided respite care to children in their own homes. I have experience of supporting children with additional needs.
I have SVQ Level 3 in Early Years, Childcare and Education. Over the years I have also undertaken various certificated training including: Food & Hygiene, First Aid, Child Protection and Autism Awareness. I am also a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Children (PVG) Scheme.
I recently completed a Dyslexia Awareness Course and like to keep updated with any new training that is available.
I am a proud grandmother to one grandson with another on the way.
I currently volunteer at a local charity who provide support to people who are trying to recover from trauma. Whilst the service users attend the programme I am heading the creche and looking after the children to ensure that childcare is not a barrier for families who need to attend the programme for support.
I have raised one son who makes me proud every day as he is now a loving respectful man who during his own childhood was happy to share me with other children who were not as fortunate as him.
I have previously supported a family with two children one of whom was seriously visually impaired and still offer support to him in his adulthood.
I am reliable, trustworthy, caring and recognise that every child is different and I take a person centred approach to each individual child to ensure I am providing the required level of support, care and encouragement to allow the child to grow and develop at their own pace.
I respond to challenging behaviour by using distraction techniques and use praise to encourage positive behaviour.
I have worked with many children over the years and find that I not easily phased and can cope well with any situation that arises.
I enjoy spending time with my Grandson, reading, sewing, cinema, socialising with friends and family, walking and short weekend breaks to the stunning Northumberland Coast.
