Hi, my name is Rebecca and I live with my family in Birmingham.
I am a 24-year-old Psychology graduate with two years of professional experiences working for charities supporting vulnerable women. During my time at university and during my career so far, I have engaged in many volunteering opportunities including at a residential camp for children with serious health challenges, helping out with the creche at English lessons for refugees and asylum seekers,
I have lots of experience of working with children professionally too - as an assistant for Rhythm Time, which runs music classes for babies and children. as a Senior Mentor for the National Citizen Service, a three-week personal development programme for sixteen-year-olds and through a month of voluntary work in India with disadvantaged children. I also have experience of working with children and young people with additional needs through education - in my last job, I went into schools, including SEN schools, to teach children and young people about their bodies, and I also led a project called Clubbing Crew at university, organising monthly nights out at the Students' Union for young people with learning disabilities.
From June to August 2020, I will be working at a summer camp in America. |

Work Experience & Education Background |

Work Experience 1 Year, references 2 |
In the summer of 2017, I volunteered for Over The Wall, a charity that provides week-long residential camps for children with serious health challenges. I undertook the role of Drama Leader, devising and leading drama sessions for a variety of age groups, seeking to develop the confidence, self-esteem and coping strategies of the campers. I worked alongside a diverse team of volunteers to create a happy, safe and fun environment for the children. As Drama Leader, I was able to support everyone who found drama daunting, including other volunteers, and adjust the sessions to make them accessible to all, including those with physical disabilities.
In the summers of 2016 and 2017, I worked as a Senior Mentor for the National Citizen Service, leading and pastorally supporting a group of sixteen-year-olds over a three-week programme of outdoor pursuit activities, creative skill development, and charity campaigning. I held responsibility for the personal development and goal achievement of my team, and I developed my personal adaptability and flexibility in order to build relationships with and engage effectively with the young people. I led reflective evening sessions every night, each focused on a different competency that the programme was designed to develop in the young people. I adjusted the content of these sessions depending on my team’s strengths and interests in order to help them get the most out of the sessions. I also worked as part of a staff team to manage young people in residential settings and address challenging behaviour, seeking to be a positive role model for good behaviour.
I volunteered in Calcutta, India for a month in the summer of 2015, working with street children at an informal school and an after-school club, teaching English, drama and games and building rapport with the children. I also built my own resilience by working in challenging conditions, both physically and emotionally, and I learnt about the importance of understanding cultural differences.
