I am a motivated individual who is ambitious and ready to take on new tasks. I work well independently and just as well within a team of people. I’m friendly, approachable and a reliable person who takes pride in all my work. I have recently completed my PGDipED primary education at the University of Birmingham. I have worked and volunteered in various schools across Birmingham and Leicester and due to this I am able to adapt my style in order to meet the needs of diverse groups of children and families. I demonstrate great leadership skills, this was highlighted in my last teacher assistant role, whereby my role changed and I became responsible for liaising with the communication and autism team, students with an ASD diagnosis, their families and staff members. I met with the schools CAT worker weekly, and together we came up with strategies of how the school can support the children through engaging staff and contact with their parents/carers. Finally, I am able to create meaningful lasting relationships with children, their families and my colleagues, this has been a strength commented on and highlighted throughout my time in various schools. I was graded as a ‘Good’ trainee in all of my placements schools and described as ‘having a calm manner with the children’ and ‘able to take on advice and respond to feedback by using it to improve practice’. At the end of my second placement, my top three strengths were my ‘organisational skills’, ‘taking on board feedback and implementing changes’ and ‘a calm manner with the children’. After reflecting on practice, I believe that my main strengths are being able to build positive relationships with children, parents and staff members. |

My last teaching assistant role involved me supporting students with SEN during lessons and out of lessons. I planned and carried out small reading intervention groups weekly. The aim of these interventions were to help students improve their reading ages. Many of the students who I closely worked with improved their reading ages. Especially one student in year 7 who increased his reading age from 8 years to 14 years, and as a result he was moved out of my reading intervention group as he no longer needed the support. As well as this, I was involved in lunch time club every day which was a club for the more vulnerable students, who preferred to stay indoors rather than going outside.
During my time at the school my role changed and I became responsible for liaising with the communication and autism team, students with an ASD diagnosis, their families and staff members. Some of the students faced daily challenges in terms of coming to school and overcoming any barriers that stopped them from learning. I met with the schools CAT worker weekly and would go through each child identified to have a diagnosis of ASD, and together we came up with strategies of how the school can support them through engaging staff and contact with their parents/carers. I was responsible in ensuring that students who faced these challenges were settled once in school. Finally I also used a range of strategies such as fiddle toys and passes that made reasonable adjustments for the students. Alongside this role I still carried out the reading interventions.
Prior to this role I worked in a primary school as a teaching assistant supporting in key stage 1 in year 2. My daily tasks involved:- - Encouraging students. - Assisting a small group of children with special educational needs in Maths and English learning interventions. - Checking and marking the pupil’s books and providing support for the class teacher with some of the children with challenging behaviours by keeping them engaged during class time to minimise disruptions. - Responsible for managing the children’s snack time and supervising them during break-time. - Responsible for providing feedback to the three teachers who I worked alongside on the progress of the pupils who I worked with on a daily basis. - Helping the teachers prepare resources needed for each lesson, and ensuring |
