January 2018 – Present: Enchanted Forrest Nursery (Team Leader)
My role in the nursery has developed into a team leader in the baby department. I am based in the baby room with children age 0 to 12 months. however I am responsible to oversee 3 baby rooms which cater for children age 1 – 2 years of age. My responsibilities include the day to day running of each room by performing an important role caring for children whilst maintaining a high quality, stimulating learning environment, supervising staff, and imparting their knowledge and skills to others. I am a creative and a reflective leader with the ability to implement new ideas and use a range of strategies to continually improve practice and support the management team. I hold a high degree of integrity and empathy when dealing with children, and give good verbal and written communication. It is essential I plan and provide age appropriate activities that will allow me to observe, assess and track children’s learning and development.

My role in the nursery environment involves maintaining records for individual children, including daily observations and information about activities, meals served and assisting with any medications administered. I frequently read to the children and teach them simple painting, drawing, handcrafts and songs. This is done through using organisation skills including preparing and participating in recreational activities, assisting in preparing food, serving meals and refreshments to children, and organizing/storing toys and materials in activity areas, sterilizing, bottles and preparing baby milk when required. I calculate ratios of staff to children on a daily basis by completing a ratio sheet. First I determine the amount of children there are in each department to the amount of staff that we have on the floor in each department, then I would allocate staff members into rooms so that every room remains in ratio |
