  About me:

Hello,
I hope that you are finding yourself well. My name is Eva Engvold and I work as a self employed illustrator, this means I manage time to my own accords. However, it would be a joy to be mindful and caring for children. I am fascinated by their take on the world and enjoy listening and answering to all their questions that rise up.
In my degree I wrote my dissertation on Norwegian Folklore and how it was inspired by the rural landscape. I have Norwegian roots and often go to visit my mother who lives up within the Arctic circle. I find nature inspiring, and whilst going on walks fantastical stories can be easily conjured up.

People's wellbeing is an important concern of mine, which has led me to visit Greece twice recently to help in the refugee crisis and become a friend to adults and children. Planning activities alongside people of many different ethnicities was uplifting. I cooked, built a children's space, and ran creative activities. I also helped individuals in revising english, this involved singing english spoken songs, teaching and setting homework. Resources for setting up workshops were limited, never the less by thinking out of the box and using alternatives I still managed to create a cheery and safe space, especially for children.

This summer I got to volunteer with a children's activity group called Brown and Orange. We would set up in the kids field at festivals and invite children into our small creative world. I would draw characters for children to colour in (which I could do forever, ) read stories out loud (which I secretly enjoy) and there was a huge dressing up box where we could establish roles and make up serious or silly scenarios.

I am always willing to lend a hand as I prefer to be involved in an activity than not. Even when one is meant to be socialising, I prefer to enhance the environment by offering food, decorating or clearing up. From working at many cafes and restaurants I have become fast and efficient at being tidy, clearing up as I go along.
My mother brought me up on her own and taught me that you do not have a problem if you can fix it. We travelled a lot around the world with her job, and from that upbringing I became adaptable to new places and accommodating in meeting new people. This also has led me to be open minded and non judgmental.

I believe that is all I can say for now. It would be a blessing to be caring and accommodating as a nanny. I hope that this letter helps in understanding a bit more of who I am. Let me know if you are keen to meet up.
Many warm wishes Eva

  Work Experience & Education Background

Work Experience 1 Year, references 0
My experience was running workshops for children that would last 4 consecutive days at festivals in the Kids field. This summer I worked at 4 festivals in total. I concentrated on making up my own stories that were funny but also had a little moral lesson. I spoke in clear notes, and made sure my voice was loud to be heard but still caring. As the tent area was a very small space, I had to make sure that the kids were kind to one another, not to squash or push. I have learnt to have a firm voice, and explain the calmly why certain behaviour is not acceptable to tolerate. As there were many different ages in the little tent, I taught the older ones about responsibility of taking care of the younger ones. Older children seem to enjoy this. With the younger children I had to keep an acute watchful eye at all times, for example making sure they did not put foreign objects in their mouths and other matters that could harm their health and safety. I assisted young ones when they needed the toilette and helped to keep their hands and faces cleaned and wiped nicely.
My other experience before that was in Greece, where I ran painting, clay modelling and english lessons for refugee children. There I felt how essential it is to give my undivided attention to every single child. I encouraged the children to be creative, even if they were shy I would take my time and be by their side. Also, I do love undertaking the task of making a space feel safe and soothing for the child, so that she or he can engulf themselves in learning, creating, thinking or sleeping.

I studied and drew children's illustration in my BA Illustration course. It is a dream of mine to have children's books published. While I was doing my A levels in Taunton, I did work experience at the nursery every Friday morning. We looked over the children playing, have a pleasant snack time together and of course kept the children clean and helped in toilette assistance if needed. From 11 to 15 years old, I attended a Steiner School, where I learnt a lot about using your own initiative. In the morning we would have 20 minutes where we all would take up roles in cleaning. There were no hired cleaners at the school. When a new school year started one would get to volunteer as a “Buddy” to one of the new pupils. This meant you had to be a kind friend whilst they got their bearings in the new school.
